Notes on Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC SLD ELD ...- I am not a "pro" but I have a fair background in photography. I retired a Nikon 6006 several years ago when the digital cameras became so popular and we purchased a Kodak point and shoot just to keep around the house.

The big problem with the "p-n-s" cameras is speed; they don't have any! So recently my wife mentioned she'd like to have a nice camera again. That was encouragement enough!

I wanted to buy a nice dslr and lens. I decided to buy a body and then lens; I'm of the opinion that the packages you can buy normally have a decent camera and a maybe not-so-decent (slow) lens. SO I did some research and decided to buy a Sigma dslr body (VERY pleased with the camera) and a good lens. I decided on the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. Excellent speed excellent optics, excellent speed. Exactly what I wanted, and the price for everything wasn't too bad.

This lens is very well-made and while not as fast as a f1.4, it's great for use as your normal "go to" lens. And Sigma has a great reputation for making high quality lens that are less expensive that some of the branded lens.
